Alternative fuel-types for light commercial vehicles

The government is keen to encourage alternative fuel sources for light commercial vehicles, in order to improve air quality and meet the Country's obligations regarding air quality regulations

There is a consultation document available on the government website outlining the proposals, which in essence would allow category B (car) licence holders to drive a slightly heavier vehicle, if it is powered by a low emission technology, by offsetting the additional weight of the powertrain.

This will help compensate for lost payload capacity due to the added weight and size of alternative fuel technologies.

There is a consultation period which ends at midday on the 18th October, where comments can be emailed to olev.enquiries@Olev.gsi.gov.uk.
